An ancient pyrite replaced ammonite that is also heavily iridescent on the surface. The inside is replaced by pyrite and the hollows of individual shell chambers are likely preserved. This is such a pretty fossil, it almost looks created...

It is interesting to note that the Volga River is also responsible for the rainbow pyrite filled clay nodules. The general body color is a sultry red-pink, with accents of blue, yellow and purple.

Preservation of this piece is pretty incredible, and the details of the shell are quite immaculate. The hollow in the center of the shell gives some negative space to balance out the impact of this fantasic fossil to mineral pseudomorph. This is the exact stone you will receive.
